Can An Employer Make You Use A Vacation Day?

My manager wants to make anyone who does not show up for work on a mandatory Saturday use a vacation day, can he do this. I live in Texas.

    Yes, I beleive your manager has the right to do that. Vacation days are given at the company’s discretion (i.e., they aren’t required by law to give you vacation time, so the time they do give is under their control). If you’re still unsure about your manager’s actions, ask the HR manager or consult your employee handbook.

    Because you list it as mandatory with no other reason then yes. You have yo use either vacation or sick leave depends on how you leave is structured. If this “mandatory ” day is new or out of the blue I would question it. If you where hired knowing you had to report on certain Saturdays it is more or less in your contract.
